| Our
Mission |
| |
We
opened our doors in 1977 and a new counseling center was born, dedicated
to providing high quality counseling and psychotherapy in a comfortable
and supportive environment. But the name was a few weeks in the making.
Each of us believed strongly in the creative process, although we
carried it forward in unique ways. The name turned into a statement
about the nature of change, healing, growth and transformation.

Meaning of LIFE
Learning
about who we are, why we are
that way, what is important to us, our strengths and weaknesses
in relationships, what we want to change, what we want to leave
as it is, and how we choose to live our life is an important first
step toward health, growth, and transformation. |
 |
|
Integration
of the disparate, often conflicting, parts of ourselves can be the
next phase. Bringing these parts together under our direction is
like the conductor directing an orchestra. Without a fine conductor
to lead, direct, and inspire, even the greatest musicians and instruments
will make a lot of noise and no real music. Likewise, without
a sense of direction to, and a director for, our inner and outer
lives, our life may lack harmony, cohesiveness, and clarity.
Fulfillment
often comes after we know ourselves, are becoming the inner and
outer lives, and have well-chosen and defined goals that we feel
we are moving toward. Without a clear sense of awareness, direction
and progress, the joy and richness that fulfillment brings usually
proves illusive.
The
Essence
of our existence here on this planet can be sensed amid an understanding
of our deepest values. Knowing, doing, and being what is important
leads to purpose and meaning in life.
While each therapist and client give their
own emphasis and flavor to the therapeutic relationship, we believe
that these four elements form a nucleus of the transformational
process. |

| Our History |
 |
| |
Three young Marriage and Family counselors
and one Psychologist set out to create their own center, with a comfortable,
peaceful environment and the administrative control to ensure a great
opportunity for therapists and a healing environment for our clients.
We opened our doors in Monrovia at the corner of Foothill and Violet
in the summer of 1977 and a new counseling center was born.
But the name was a few weeks in the making. Each of us believed strongly
in the creative process, although we carried it forward in unique
ways. Walking our talk, we thought and meditated about our own individual
preferences for a group name and then committed it to group processing
until we arrived at a consensus choice. The name turned into a statement
about the nature of change, healing, growth and transformation –
L.I.F.E. Counseling Group.
At different times in our development we have had ancillary services,
such as various kinds of body work, such as acupressure, therapeutic
massage and Reichian therapy, and an outplacement drug and alcohol
program. Now we make referrals to people and organizations we know
in the community that provide these services.
We had L.I.F.E. Bookstore for a few years too. We are very happy to
give the shipping and handling over to the fastest growing bookstore
in the world, Amazon.com. You can connect with them through our site
and if you purchase something, a small portion of your payment comes
back to us. We will donate 100% of these proceeds to our charities. |

| Our LIFE |
| |
We are private practice, licensed psychotherapists
and registered Marriage and Family Therapist interns. We speak English
and Spanish and are of European, Asian, Pacific Island , Hispanic,
Middle Eastern and African descent. We find the diversity, depth and
quality of the therapists that presently comprise L.I.F.E. to be our
greatest asset.
Each therapist and therapist-intern practices independently and separately,
and is not responsible for the actions, suggestions, or treatment
of any other practitioner at L.I.F.E. L.I.F.E. Counseling Group is
not a partnership, a joint venture, or a professional counseling corporation. |
