Although
I see clients from different backgrounds, much of my counseling these
days is with Christians who are looking for help from a Christian
perspective with relationships and emotional pain. If clients wish,
we may look at scripture and pray in sessions. I pray for wisdom as
I work with clients and try to make my theoretical approach to counseling
compatible with Biblical truths. In sessions, I listen and share.
I find myself drawing wisdom from many sources including the Bible,
Christian writers and my own experience. I often use cognitive behavioral
interventions and attachment theory material. I am on the referral
lists of the Focus on the Family and New Life Ministries radio programs
and the Christian Care Network of the American Association of Christian
Counselors.
After teaching small group women’s Bible studies for many years,
I went back to school to earn a master’s degree in marital and
family therapy from Azusa Pacific University because I wanted to learn
how to be more helpful to the hurting people. I have been married
for almost 50 years and have two adult children and three grandchildren.
